    Default Deer seal question

Ok, so I'm sure this question has come up before, but I was hoping to get some clarification on a question I have that I can't seem to find the answer to. I have been bow hunting for years but have this year applied for and plan to hunt the second controlled hunt in WMU 80. I applied for and have a deer seal for bow hunting that says "valid for an antlerless deer in WMU 80 bows only season". I also received my controlled hunt validation tag which states " valid for an antlerless or antlered deer in WMU 80". I guess my simple question is what can I legally harvest during the controlled hunt? if the answer is both antlered and anlerless, it somehow seems wrong to attach a deer seal during the controlled hunt that says it's only valid for a doe during the bows only season. Any clarification on this would be helpful!!

All deer tags are good for bucks, but when it states you can shoot antlerless, then your tag is good for both, buck or doe/antlerless , controlled hunt or regular hunt

make sure you put the right tag on your deer, both tags are identical except one says additional tag, that is the one to put on bow kill, keep your first tag for the m/l season.
i,ve heard guys where fined for putting wrong tags on even though you are allowed 2 deer.

I know Judge said he ran into some trouble with that, myself, I would definitely take that to court, both tags are valid, both say bows only for antlerless and I'm carrying a valid controlled hunt permit for muzzleloader that states antlerless also, I cant see why you couldn't use either tag.

I could be mistaken, but I don't believe that is true. I read it as your only allowed one deer. The controlled hunt tag is not a game seal. you still have to seal the animal with your original seal you got when you purchased a licence. You need the controlled tag with you to legally be hunting, but you do not apply it to an animal.

In the OP's case, if he hasn't tagged a deer this year, he can shoot an antlered or antlerless deer during the controlled hunt, and seal it. If he is unsuccessful he can bow hunt after as he still has a seal.

I’m pretty sure the OP means he entered the draw for a doe tag in 80, and was successful in the bows only season. Unless he got an additional doe tag for archery, and he is referring to that additional tag, he is good to use his main seal on a deer indicated on his controlled validation.

Maybe people are being fined for believing they have 2 tags when they only have one...

The confusion is regarding the additional seals you can apply for in selected WMUs
I applied for a doe tag when I bought my licence, for WMU 93. It was for the bows only season. Since my controlled validation says buck or doe, I can use that seal on either a buck or doe, regardless of it saying bows only season.
I also bought an additional seal in 93, which is specifically for the bows only season. I cannot use that additional seal in the controlled hunt...that is where guys have run into trouble...

I hear ya... my comment was more of a joke. There also seems to be confusion every year where people assume that a controlled hunt validation is a second tag.

This is how I understand it. No difference than going to Canadian Tire to get your licence which will state antlered only after getting your controlled hunt validation.
