WOW, this thread is all over the place, with individuals getting personal with one another,
A buddies father hunted with buc shot and let me tell you every time he made contact with a deer it was a horror story. Now was it buc shot or the shooter.
3 deer, at least 2 hours after being hit, were found still alive and had to have the throats cut. In MY OPINION, this is not ethical, it is not paying any respect to the animal at all, to have an animal suffer like that. He lost 2 deer, on one occasion he said he hit it in the leg and it ran to the swamp and said no sense going after we would never find it. I, on my own, found the deer bedded down some 500 yards away and finished off with a slug. That was the last time I hunted guns with them, ( I no longer hunt with them due to Tresspassing issues, another story) .
My point is, I do not think that it is necessarily the amo we chose to use, it is in the way we use it. I have lost 2 deer, arrow and 1 bear shotgun, ssg slug, in my life. One deer was for sure my fault, the arrow hit a small twig deflected, hit the deer in the leg, tracked the deer for 4 hours, two days later someone had taken the deer with shotgun and halve the arrow was still in the front leg, the other was a perfect shot, found the arrow, was using a rage mechanical, one of the blades never opened. good blood trail for approx. 100 yards, then nothing. Next day found deer, 30 yards behind stand taken by coyotes. I practised all year round and am very proud of my ethics. The bear was shot a little too far back, tracked for about 80 yards to find the bear deep in a den and was told not to go in and retrieve the beer.
My point is, that, again this is MY OPINION only, we have hunters who practise regular, site in constantly, make good judgement shots and then we have people that take out the weapon of choice once/twice a year and go hunting, doesn't make them hunters. I said before a totally different set of ethics. It goes to WHY DO YOU HUNT in the first place.

Would I shoot any shot choice at a running deer, NO, why, I cant practise shooting at moving targets. Do I shoot beyond my ability, NO, have too much respect or the animal. Do I make bad shots, YES. If an arrow hits a twig, that's on me, it happens, but its still on me.

Whether what the man had said is right or wrong is not the point, I would bet if they could do an air search of all hunted land, there would be an awful lot of unclaimed dead animals out there. and I am willing to bet the numbers are drastically increased after a rifle/controlled hunt.

I have never ever used buc shot, not sure what its purpose on a large animal is. Is it to slow down a moving animal or to kill the animal, I know some have mixed in the barrel, buc shot/slug/buckshot. will shoot 1st with buc shot, finish with slug.

If you respect the animal you are hunting, you make sure your equipment is in good working order, you practice, practice, you choice your shot wisely and you do your upmost best to retrieve the animal, then at the end of the day, when you close your eyes, you can sleep with a clear conscious,
Again, its all back to the individuals ethics.

    Again, IN MY OPINION>

Agree with above. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Everyone’s experience and abilities vary. I can tolerate people voicing their opinion once or twice. It makes for conversation. At no time did you call for a ban on anything or let emotions drive your point, and that’s something I respect.

I am not buying it neither,I mean we had jaycee on here saying that 00 Buck was a prefered round to use on wounded African Lions and now he,s telling us its a bad idea to use it on deer.I dropped my very first deer a doe years ago with a single round of 00 Buck at 35 yards broadside. The 12ga Remmington 870 was my
only gun at the time and it did the job.But I personally would not use it again, heard way to many accounts of wounded deer.I am also not a big fan of bows as we also get the accounts on here every year of wounded deer being lost.I guess it all boils down to experience, some people myself included have a limited skill set with a limited number of firearms. There are lots of guys/gals who probably drop deer every season with a crossbow, track it and recover it.But there are probably lots who buy a crossbow, don,t practice, don,t know how to track (are afraid in the bush) and the deer is left to suffer and die.

Well if you're going to accuse a group of hunters of wasting deer on a hunting forum, with little evidence, you can expect some blowback.
If the underlying intent of the story is to paint Buckshot as inferior, then claiming Buckshot for being responsible for 7 fatally shot deer in the corn, not just 7 wounded deer, 7 fatally shot deer, would be a pizz poor example of it.

Also Leopards, and need I remind you that these are Professional Hunters, and it is done at close range!
Why don't you do some reading and find out for yourself.

Jaycee I already posted my links to you on the opposite view point by Professional Hunters I have no idea why you would no read the link.

[COLOR=#333333]LG (OOOBuck) buckshot and even .458 Winchester ‘Lion Load’ have been repeatedly documented as failing to penetrate the massive chest muscles of a charging lion. 9" of hard, sinewy, tensed muscle is a difficult challenge to any bullet. It is the other ‘animal’ that makes lion hunting sport. Make a mistake and the ‘role’ of hunter and hunted can quickly become reversed.

[COLOR=#141414]A .375 is adequate for lion and , if you plan on doing any other hunting , as most hunters do , it will work for your plains game species also. Scope it with a low power variable scope and shoot premium grade bonded bullets , Barnes X's( triple shocks ) or CEB's.
[COLOR=#141414]A shotgun with slugs will certainly kill a lion. It is however illegal and not practical. A shotgun with buckshot will certainly get you killed ( on lion or leopard ).

I hope you enjoy attacking other hunters for legal and perfectly ethical practices.
Ethical? Lol! I'm sure about 10% of hunters use buckshot effectively. I've been around a while and seen some horrible situations. Bottum line is a single projectile is the best way for a quick humane kill!

Not if your a bad shot or dont know the limitations of your ammunition. Loads of deer are wounded by rifles, dont kid yourself. Has absolutely nothing to do with the ammo.

Omg don't you ever shut up. We've all heard your opinion far too many times now. Now you seem to know how all the hunters in the world use buckshot, you sure do get around eh. For gods sake it's only your opinion, others may have different ones you know, it doesn't mean you're the only one who's right, even though you think it is. Yea we know you've been around for a while now, but so have many others here, but of course if they don't agree with you then they are all wrong.
Not that you'd care I'm sure, but I've only ever blocked one member here, it was an easy decision and fortunately for everyone here he hardly posts anymore. You on the other hand are rapidly rising to that status, about all I ever see you posting is belittling other hunters, certainly not any positive contributions to this forum.
