Twice this deer season I carried my J.P. Sauer Model 54 BBF (16 ga. over .30-30) loaded with No. 1 buck and 170 gr. Winchester PowerPoint. Unfortunately, no shots were fired.

It's been suggested to me that these guns are made for a lighter bullet and that 110 gr. hand loads would be ideal out of the .30-30. Anyone have thoughts on this?

Then maybe a short bodied, flat based, light bullet would be best. That’s kinda slowish no?

I thought so too until I read that Winchester Model 94's are all 1:12 twist.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

I didn't see anything priced anywhere near that! I was looking under drillings and combination guns. Nothing north of $2300. Most between $400-$600.

Of course, as always with the Tradex site I can't find the same thing twice. I may have been mistaken or misread.

I have been intently watching the Tradeex site every few hours daily since I noticed the new batch of combos being posted. Preparing to act quickly for the 12ga/222 Rem combi I want. Some beauty Varini’s in 12ga/5.6x52r went up last week. They really tempted my patience but I kept waiting. Yesterday I saw a Sabatti Classic hit their site in my preferred caliber, reviewed the pics, talked to Tony about the gun and bought. Should be here Christmas Eve.
I can not think of a better gun to carry all winter than a 12ga/222 Rem over under.
