Hard to believe but today my buddy Jake aka black dog turns 6 years old. Hopefully we've got a lot more seasons of chasing birds ahead of us, he's certainly not slowing down any. It's been quite a ride so far. Not sure why the one picture is rotated...

Happy Birthday Jake! From what I have heard you don't need a lot of encouragement to party!

Glad things turned out so well for you Nick. Buy that setter.

LOL Jake has a LOT of slowing down to do before we add a third dog to the household. I do have the itch pretty bad though. Been looking at setters and DDs. I love the classic look of a setter but just wonder if I'd be better served by a DD since I do a fair amount of waterfowl as well.

Life is a sequence of pickup trucks and dogs.
My lab turns 7 this year. Many more birds to find.

Setters & waterfowl are two things that are rarely mentioned together. Gotta say, Setters are great “indoor” dogs. Mine definitely has an off switch, in fact by 9:00 pm if nobody is in bed she just goes by herself.
I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

Definitely. Grouse is my biggest passion even though I duck/ goose hunt just as much if not more. And although I do love labs I do not find them stylish when upland hunting. I think it will be tough to go from watching a close working stylish spaniel to anything else but I know a pointing dog of some sort probably makes the most sense with low bird numbers here in the south. A versatile dog is the ticket I think. A drahthaar seems to check all the boxes. That being said I'm probably still 2 years out so I'll probably change my mind 10 more times.
