    Default Cape Canaveral pier?

Going to Florida for a week and my son would like to try fishing off the pier in Cape Canaveral as well as in Clearwater on the pier as well. Is there anyone here that has done this and any pointers.
    Thanks

I've been using shrimp tails tied up in roe netting for a number of years now. It's a killer bait off the piers.
It's hard to keep shrimp on the hook, especially frozen shimp. The mesh holds it together on the hook perfectly.
Hot pink, chartruese are great colours to use. I also don't trim the excess mesh off either.
I fish the bottom with a "flattened" egg sinker and a 15" florocarbon lead.

Sounds like a plan I will take some netting and thread with us so we can tie some up when we get down there.
    Thanks

Little hint about those shrimp--don't forget them in the trunk of your car.

I would suggest you leave the pier to the tourists and beach fish using whole cigar minnows with a hook in the head and one in the tail, sand crabs, or whole shrimp, cut squid is good for kids as it stays on the hook longer. Fish at sunup or sunset when there is an on-shore breeze and a good surf, use a 50lb mono leader to prevent bite-offs and strong hooks, if you get into the Bluefish they have sharp teeth.

I cat fish with raw shrimp, key to keeping it on the hook frozen or not is to keep the shell on, put hook through the shell, this will keep the shrimp on the hook. I leave a bag of raw cut shrimp outside on a sunny day and then freeze it when it's nice and stinky, I use PC raw 30count shrimp cut in half.
