Wild Boar Hunting ...in Ontario

Did every one here forget ?, all the articles that were in newspapers in the early 2000's about the then MNR closing down all wild boar operations in Ontario.
If I am not mistaken , a few of these articles appeared in the OOD mag.
There was one just north of Conn On., One around Kincardine, and one around Gananoque, that I am aware of, they are all closed down no longer in operation, this all happened while my buddy a C.O. was still working and he was quite upset as he bow hunted the farm near Gananoque.
The farm near Conn, we saw the odd pig running around inside the fence as we drove by, and the one near Kincardine, my friend and I delivered some heavy duty fencing to that operation.

These were all set up as hunting operations, when it comes to privately owned , a good friend of mine that delivered with me the fencing, [he sold farming supplies] was also asked to close down his operation even though he raised only a few and sold, butchered for private consumption.

I do not think anyone here is actually wanting them to be introduced, but are saying that if and when they do appear they would gladly hunt them as it,s an opportunity to put some great meat on the table.

The hunt operations are shut down, but there are still a couple meat operations on the go. We got one north east of London. You can't hunt them, but you can buy as much wild boar meat as you like.

There was a breach at a game farm not to far from here a few years back.






That report says there (was) 38 game farms specific to Wild Boar in Ontario alone (Table 4 page 11)....over 1,000 imported Wild Boars.

The ones that escaped in Manitoba walked over their fence at a game farm after a big snowfall....that's how easy it can happen.

No where does it mention Game Farm, from the report " Alternative Livestock on Canadian Farms "
If you check with our MNRF you will find that they had closed down all wild boar game farms in On. quite some time ago.

38 farms total 1006 wild boar in Ontario. 26.5 per farm. I'm not sure what you mean "ambiguous" - it's pretty clear.

The only thing that's confusing me is that I was certain all the Wild Boar (European) swine operations were shut down by the government 15 years ago,including the operations raising them for the high-fence hunting operations (don't get me going on that) and the restaurant trade. It's too bad there isn't more current data.

Just google "wild boar farms in Ontario" - lots of wild boar still being raised in this province.

Although I somehow think that table does not include everything numbers wise as looking at the red deer numbers I know something is out of whack as I have a cousin with a red deer farm in Bruce county and he ships more deer just from his farm than are listed in the table.

Wild pigs are predators, they eat everything, think huge raccoon and not natural.

You really think a couple hunters are going to offset the massive destruction that the pigs will bring to Ontario?

In Asian they have carp too and no issues, look what happened when they were brought here.
