    Default SNC-Lavgate/JWR another angle

Here’s an interesting article from Conrad Black, worth a read

    https://nationalpost.com/opinion/con...raybould-issue

I usually enjoy his articles and commentary (he is on 640AM 4:30pm Fridays), but in some spots I find this article has language that’s a little out of reach for me - I’m somewhat educated but not an English major.

So - was DumbDumb also realizing that he’d bitten off more than he could handle with a native highly placed in his cabinet ?

Justine isn't (wasn't) smart enough to figure that out. He's in way over his head.

that’s been obvious for quite some time,

The point of the article is the notion that she was perhaps not a shining star among the rest of caucus and that she had her own agenda, which should have been obvious in hindsight. There were likely a few reasons why she was shuffled out of the AG role, but she’s chosen to highlight the one that made her a hero.

Every politician has their own agenda. To think otherwise is naive. This scandal isn't about JWR being shuffled out of the AG role or if JWR is or isn't qualified to be the Minister of Justice/AG per Black's column. It is about whether the PMO and other cabinet members, on SNC's request, inappropriately pressured JWR to offer SNC a DPA when the crown prosecutors had already determined SNC wasn't qualified for a DPA in a criminal case. At best, it was an attempt at polticial interference in an independant judiciary. At worst, it is obstruction of justice.

There is no doubt that JWR was an activist-lawyer before and while she was in office. Remember her comments after the Gerald Stanley verdict? They become lawyers because they believe it will make them better at furthering their agendas. In reality they just become poor lawyers because of their clouded legal sense.
