    Default Marlborough Forest

So this was my first year hunting and, while unsuccessful, I had a great time just being out there. I spent my time divided between the Marlborough Forest and a small parcel of private property I was able to secure.
A question I have, and Line052 maybe you could speak to this, is that is there private property within the forest itself ? More specifically, in the area of E4 of off Roger Stevens on the north side. Approximately a kilometer in at a junction there are posted signs saying do not enter, private, etc. There are no houses around. I guess since the forest isn't Crown Land it is possible. It just seems so far removed from everything.
I am just wondering if someone has put these signs up to keep that hunting area to themselves. Regardless, I obeyed the posted signs. I would love to have a quality hard copy map of the forest if anyone knows where to get one I'd appreciate it.

    As a side note
I established a great relationship with a property owner ( doesn't hurt that he is my mom's neighbour but I had never met him before ). So good in fact that he has offered to take me around in the spring to a different area that he had held back ( I think he was testing me ) and show me where he has seen a group of large toms in the past. I can't wait for the spring turkey hunt. The turkeys in my area are starting to come out of the woods and moving a bit. I have started my scouting and am pleased with what I see so far.

Yes, there is private land mixed in. Some is posted and some is not. The City of Ottawa has a very good online map resource which shows the parcels along with satellite images. There are some pretty old appendices to forest management plans which showed the private and public portions at the time, but the regional municipality (as it was known then) was still acquiring parcels, so they are out of date.

The city Discharge Maps are good, but I have been playing this link on GEO Ottawa http://maps.ottawa.ca/geoOttawa/

In the legend, you can turn layers, it takes a bit to find lot and concession box, but you can overlay the discharge maps, and other layers to give you a better idea.

As for private lands and those how post areas of "Private Property", about half the posted areas not actual "private property". The area off E4 that refer to at the T-Junction is. Lesson learned, a member of this forum in Ottawa has a parcel of private property and I found the embarrassing way, seen an opening to nice ravine and went in, sat down had a smoke. Was not hunting but had walked that road portion for years grouse hunting. Turns out, once I came out the woods he came out and informed me it was PP, now had I been observant and seen the Red Paint DOTS all over the place, I should have known and recognized, but I didn't. He was good about it, and we went back to my camp for a coffee. I guess the point is, I was so familiar with that route I had no longer seen the signs. I still feel stupid about this today, and was happy it was someone I know. Could have been a trespassing charge...

Over the last few years, I have engaged with Kemptville MNR to try and get them to help on a two specific areas that posted and not listed under the Marlborough Forrest Management Plan (which includes all leased properties within the MB). The MNR has not come out while I was there, nor have they followed up. (honestly, I don't think they have the time).

The last MB Management plan expired in 2015 and I have not been able to locate a newer version of it. This plan listed all the leases in the MB, as you can lease lots/concessions. Those that own leases are different from the people who still own private parcels of land and have not sold them to the city. Leases, are considered private property.
