Great another parasite too worry about. I'm already apprehensive about the danger of tick medication.

This could be a real bad scene for dog owners. Coyote hunters need to be really cautious when handling carcasses.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

This is pretty worrisome, but I think the deep story here is that this has been around for a while. It's not clear whether media are overstating the risk.

I havnt heard of a hound getting sick or dying in a long time. I hunted with at least 30 different dogs this winter and all of them had multiple contact with coyotes. I'm not worried too much, I skinned close to 40 coyotes this winter so maybe I have it too.
Although I've been asked if I have a tape worm for how much I can eat for my size hahaha

Not a big scare if you deworm your dogs regularly, I do believe that any of them that have 'praziquantel' as the main intermediate works for this tapeworm.

The problem is like Lyme, it can be in you for years before any signs or symptoms show up. Nasty stuff.

We have used Interceptor as our heartworm medication for years as it seemed to cover a wider spectrum of worms then Sentinel and some of the other heartworm medications. We were in earlier than normal this year to get the dogs started as we were headed south to train. The clinic informed me of Interceptor PLUS which is new this year ... more expensive (of course) than the regular Interceptor, but less expensive than the "regular" heartworm + deworming medication. When the information on this "new" tapeworm hit the media about two weeks ago, asked the clinic about it and yes Interceptor PLUS does cover this tapeworm.
