Removing Old Lube

I picked up a bag full of Minie Balls (x49 for $5) for my .58 Musketoon at the gun show.



They needed to be stripped and cleaned before I re-lubed them.

I used an old slow cooker lined with paper towel, set on high for 4 hrs. I changed the paper towel 1/2 way.



It worked great and all the wax and crud melted off.



What was left was a sticky goo. I'm not sure what it was but later found out Kerosene worked well to wipe the film off the pot and my fingers.



I put them in a pot on the stove and boiled it for a few minutes then took them out and while still hot used a rag to whip off the thick goo Used a Popsicle stick to clean out the cups.



Good Mix of Minie bullets for plinking at $0.10 ea. Those 566 gr look like they'll be fun

Did you get those at the Grenville show? If so, did you talk to the gentleman who casts bullets and sells them as a side business - he was along the wall in building 3? His prices seemed really cheap, although I don't really follow the prices of cast lead bullest.

There were two there. The fella Rick from Maitland has made me bullets for years. Apparently he's scaling down his business and a fella from Barrhaven (George Briggs..goodwinbullets.ca ) is taking over a lot of Rick's business.

Great to have a couple of local guys doing quality work.

Someone had asked once how to clean up old lubed bullets and knowing most recipes for lube are heavy in Bee and Parffin wax I thought this might work , so nice that the Slow Cooker idea does prove out.

His stuff seems very limited to popular calibers, the price list from George showed a heck of a lot of calibers and bullet weights and the prices were very nice.

rf2, if you are looking to compare take a look at The Bullet Barn as a comparison, they are in BC though so shipping would be a pain.
