NAVHDA
Hi all, I'm looking for some help. My wife and I are looking to join a NAVHDA chapter here in Ontario, but not really certain which one to join (Grand River or Toronto, but Ottawa isn't out of the question). Previously we were members of the Northern Michigan chapter, but we feel that joining a Canadian chapter would be a better option for us. We live in Sault Ste. Marie, so nothing is really close, but that's not a limiting factor. We have a PP pup that will be doing his NA this fall and an 11 year old PP (retired). Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I was a member for 2 years (2016, 2017) with the Grand River Chapter. Good group of people, helped me out with the training and NA test.

Thanks for the reply, I was leaning more toward the Grand River chapter, so it’s good to hear a positive review. If you don’t mind me asking, why were you a member for only 2 years?

Join the one that you can offer the most to, as well as benefit from. Look at their test dates, training dates and which works best for you.

I belonged to Grand River as well. Ran my PP thru the testing there too. They are good people. I also attended the Toronto chapter for a couple of training days too. Both were equally helpful. Kinda depends who you click with personally. I think if you lived really close to one of these chapters, that would be the one to go with. I live a couple of hours away from either, so I ended up training by myself. I followed NAVDA green book and overlayed with some newer training methods. Scored well in NA. But then again my hunting partner is a Pudelpointer. That being said I already had the best dog in the world! Ha! Check when you want to test and go with that one,

The Northern Michigan one would make more sense with you living in the Soo. I was up there on business this weekend and you would be looking at a 7 hour drive minimum for Grand River or Toronto chapters. You might consider starting one up there actually. I bet there are quite a few Versatile dog owners up there.
I’m suspicious of people who don't like dogs, but I trust a dog who doesn't like a person.

I don’t think starting a chapter here is something I’m prepared to take on at this time.
