Default Sweetlix Rack Deer Block: proof they work

A few weeks back TSC had the $25 Sweetlix Rack Blocks on sale for $15 so I bought a couple for the spring feeding.

Here are some pics of the 'usage' condition of the block after 2 weeks out in the woods. Spring is a great time to drop these blocks off and a great help to the deer looking for minerals.,,not to mention for Rack development s on bucks.

In this months 'Out of Doors' , page 34, they have an article on mineral licks and how to set them up. Good Info..

I should add I usually bury the Sweetlix in the ground, but this year at Easter the ground was still frozen so I just dropped it under the base of a tree....seems to still work OK.

How much do the blocks cost? I use red mineral blocks. It’s been my experience that deer won’t eat or chew the blocks but will eat the soil or drink the run off water.

The blocks go on sale at TSC for $15..normally $25

The article in the OOD says that with loose minerals, your suppose to bury them under the surface soil. The deer will find them and will dig them up and lick the soil.

These pics show a block been hit heavy well into the winter

From my experience that is true I usually bury the block.

I had never had good success with the mineral blocks but have had great success with mineral in a bag poured over a stump or just simply mixing it up with the soil.
Not sure why the blocks didn't work.

Don't be deluded into thinking this product will make any size difference to antler growth.
The SweetLix website lists the calcium content as a maximum of 1.25%
The main attraction is salt and molasses

You guys in southern Ontario where the base bed rock is lime stone, have more than enough calcium naturally in the environment.

Still, you will get deer accustomed to your area with the salt attractant and get a good inventory with a trail cam over the block

Your right that is the basic function I use them for, I will set my second on out back shortly and put up a trail cam on it.

The soil here sand and clay....any minerals added to the diet helps.
