10 reasons NOT to eat summer pike
Now that I have your attention...
I'm tired of people telling me "ew gross! Summer pike is nasty, catch and release catch and release!!!"
Fishing is a lot if fun. But I like to keep my limit so we have some wild food in the fridge.
??? Give me 10 good reasons why I shouldn't eat summer pike.

Can't give any reasons not to eat Pike any time of the year. If you can get them deboned at all they make for very good eating. My wife likes them better than Walleye. More taste and I can't disagree

I'm with yuo...I love to fish Pike.....great fun to catch on the river.
Can't think of too many reasons not to eat them... I do find the meat is a little 'soft' during the heat of the summer, but not a real issue if you're cooking it wrapped in foil.

Big fan of a pike fry. I also like the fact I only need to catch 1 in order to have a decent supper
This isn't a test run................Enjoy er'.......

I laugh at all the people afraid of the bones, just pull them out when you eat them. These are probably the people who eat boneless wings and boneless ribs.

Oh for God's sakes, do you eat whole trout? There are fish bones in that too. Learn how to eat fish with bones and then eat fish with bones. We never once took the Y bones out of a pike, you lose a ton of meat, just do it properly and they pull out like a zipper.
The more dangerous thing is thinking you have a boneless filet and find bones.

I enjoy eating pike as well. Only reason I can think of why people would say don’t eat summertime pike is, that they can get a parasitic worm in there flesh during the warmer summer months. This is not just pike but other fish as well like bass etc. Some areas are worse then others. Its still safe to eat as long as the meat is cooked well. It’s just the thought of eating worms that turns people off of eating summertime fish from waters that are known for it.

I won't target them or allow them in my boat unless they come from oligotrophic or mesotrophic waters. I've often found pike from stained lakes to be horrendously slimy, sometimes they stink and the meat is mushy. I'm also not too keen on the idea that they can destroy your brand new Rapala by swallowing the thing.
