No rain and stunted crops

The cold wet spring really delayed the planting of corn, beans and other crops this year. When you drive around the countryside you can see that the recent hot temperatures have started the crops growing but the lack of rain is starting to impact crops. I’m located in souther Bruce County and we have only has 0.2 mm of rain so far this month. It’s getting to the point where rain is desperately needed. The late planting and lack of rain are really going to have a negative impact on crops. Look for big delays in harvesting this fall. This will make field hunting in corn fields a bit of a concern.
A late harvest of corn in particular could result in some migrants spending less time in our area. This could also negatively impact the deer hunt this fall as there may be more standing corn than usual.
On a positive note, the wheat seems to be doing really well. Hunting these fields early in the season should be very good.

We have had rain in the london area, and though the crops are looking good the late start will not help. I think it could be a double hit with a cooler fall and more rain. Maybe not like the spring but enough that the crops don't dry and the ground may be too soft for equipment.

In the States they are doing things like planting fast growing, but lower yields crops. The down side is the total bushel yield will be lower, but the price per bushel could be higher.

And of course, it just started raining a few minutes ago! It has almost stopped but we did get 4.4 mm of rain so far. I should have made this post earlier in the week!

First cut of hay is in in Eastern Ont.......it was about 2 weeks late....but not unheard of. I used to expect it the July 1st long weekend....in recent years it's been coming in mid June, but now back to 1st week of July. Seems cyclical if you do it long enough the cycle repeats itself.

Around here, farmers always claimed that the corn should be "knee high by the 4th of july", so far it's living up to that.

A week ago this past friday, we received 2 3/8 inches of rain, a real gully washer.

talked to a farmer just west of owen sound a month ago, he was selling half his property.

was saying he couldn't grow any crop because of all the flooding. he couldn't even till because he cant get his machine in there cause its to wet.

they are all taking a hit. even the 400 and canal road those big fields there just dried up a couple months ago . drove past them today i havent seen as many people working in the fields as i did today.

they are in full force

good for them, some of the hardest working people out there no doubt.

No rain....I WISH!!
West-central Alberta foothills,been raining for a month,swollen rivers,crops look like rice paddys....Rained out/starved out of the bush,I work in oilfield and log trucking,worked 6 days in last 4 weeks.

Things got planted late in Sunderland area for sure but we haven't had a lack of rain. Corn still seems to be growing a few inches a day. MOst of its up to my waist now.
