    Default Black bear calibre/ammo

    What calibre/ammo combo do you use for black bear.
    Please note: This topic is not for debate it is only for information.

    My go to is 300 Win Mag and Remington Hypersonic Ultra CoreLokt 180 grain
    Guns have two enemies................rust and government

    9.3x62 with a 285 spire point or a 300 grain hollow point from a 450 marlin. Honestly the heavier and slower rounds perform best. I have guided hunters to around 30 bears and would rather see a 30-30 then any magnum. And nothing under .30 cal. Sure smaller calibers can kill bears but my bear last fall taken with the 9.3 was the quickest kill I have witnessed.

    45 70, 325 grain leverloution. Never had any animal go more than 10 yards (moose, bear, deer)

    Last 6 have been with the 35 Whelen using either 225 grain Accubonds or 250 grain partitions. Recovery varied from bang flop to 12 yards.

    Either a .270Win (150gr PSP) or .30-06Sprg (165gr PSP) .....whichever I happen to have with me at the time. I have no problem popping them with a 12ga slug if that's all I've got.
