"new" shorty shotshells

Saw a show that mentioned that short, 1.75 inch, 12 gauge shells were being made again and then saw the same in the OOD 2019-20 Hunting Annual. Single shot and doubles would be fine, but wouldn't these be an issue in pumps and semi autos that can even hold two 2.75 12 gauge shells as far as hunting goes?

Can not say I know the ins and outs of this ammo ...but why would it be any different than shooting 2 3/4 out of a gun that can shoot a 3 1/2 inch shell ?

If it's plugged properly a magazine that holds two 3.5 shells can't hold more than two 2.75 shells. A 2.75 shot gun could hold three 1.75 inch shells in the mag.

I'd suspect if you got the shorties on you, you better make sure your gun is properly plugged.

I never thought of the plug ....good point ! ..... I was thinking in terms of cycling the shells .

What size shot would be in them? Would they work in all guns? Mine all say 2 3/4 for my 20 and my 12 says 2 3/4, 3, 3.5

I would think they might not cycle in some/most semi autos if they don't have much of a charge and/or load but don't know. I think there is only 12 gauge shells and the magazine said options are: #8, 4 buck and rifled slugs. No mention of load weight. Federal's website might have more info.

Plus if you're a reloader, I suspect your reloading press will need a further adjustment to properly crimp them. Lovely!

Federal's site lists the weight as 15/16 for #8 and 4 buck; 1oz for the slug. If I had a 12 gauge double for grouse they'd do the job but so do a lot of other shells and I like changing shot size as conditions and seasons change.

Sounds like the #8 shot was developed for Dove shooting and the buck or slugs for varmints ? Maybe it's light loads for little people ?
