You don't seem to have a grasp of gravity; if zeroed at 200 yds and take a shot at a target 200 yds away and miss, that 180 gr bullet will only continue for another 200-300 yds before it hits the ground...considering -60" drop is about what you have when to are standing and taking a shot.

200 to 300 yards is still a distance..as in two to three football fields.
I have a very good understanding of Gravity.
Take the warning labels off. Darwin will solve the problem.

OK...I guess distance is relative.
If I were to shoot my .303 from my parking area at the house down the driveway at a deer 200 yds away that 180gr bullet wouldn't even make it to my mailbox (800 yds away)..HaHa.

My No.4 Rifle had an adjustable sight and I used an Optical range finder.
I believe most open sights for military application had adjustable sights for volley fire purposes, not so much for aimed shooting beyond certain distance. Somewhere after 300 yards the open sight covers the target any which way .......

I was talking about the flip up sight.
The range finder was a camera lens. You adjusted the knob on the side till both sides of the image where in focused, then read the distance.
Accuracy was good enough...+/- 20 Yards at 1000 Yards...

303 savage or 303 British?
Yes, as you say it's only going 2 to 3 hundred yards past your target, but you want to be in range?

Saw a great option for a Bear Gun/Ammo...
The M1 Garand service rifle chambered for .458 Winchester Magnum
The classic military M1 Garand service rifle is typically chambered in the military .30/06 cartridge. What if it was rechambered into an elephant gun?
When McCann Industries converted this M1 Garand to the mighty .458 Winchester Belted Magnum, they did it right.
The heavy recoil is slowed and somewhat tamed by an excellent muzzle brake and a cylinder of mercury in the butt stock. This means you can down that mighty beast with this super caliber and not break your shoulder in the process.
This quick firing custom elephant gun can save you from claw and tooth in a hurry.
Love the quote " This quick firing custom elephant gun can save you from claw and tooth in a hurry. "

I have a 1.5" thick (135lb) steel plate at the 100 yds panel. The 174 gr 303 (FMJ) doesn't dimple it much.....but the 165 gr (Vital Shok) 308 leaves a crater. I was surprised, but pics proves out.
Top two .303 (steel jacket fused)... bottom three .308
