    Default PAL Renewal

So back in August 3 months before my expiry date I get a letter that my license will expire. So plenty of notice. Anyway I hit the two month point and not having the highest confidence in the system I figured I better get at it. So I went online on Tuesday Sept 3. My wife happened to be gone that week so I had to check the box that she was not available to "sign off" on my application.Took my first ever selfie with my camera. Monday Sept 10 my wife gets mail from the East Region Firearms Office informing her of my application. Today I got my new card in the mail, so that's 15 days total time. Simply Amazing, I wouldn't have believed it could happen that well. So I have to give kudos to the feds for getting it right this time with the online process. Now if they could only just put a code on the card to fit the license conditions instead of having to carry around a piece of paper with it. Like duhh...

Just went through the same process for the renewal, extremely fast and efficient. Very surprised!

That is all well and good. But there is still an outstanding problem for new hunters or those who have been out of hunting for sometime and their FAC has lapsed. In the late summer or early fall they are asked about getting involved in the hunt by friends or associates at work. Times was, all they would need to do is take a hunting course, or rummage back through past paperwork and find an old hunting licence. They could then go pick up a new licence and join in. NOT ANYMORE! Now if they plan to hunt with a rifle or shotgun, they find out they will need a Firearm Licence. They will have to take a course and wait possibly 3 months for their licence. By then the hunting season is over. This is what needs to be sped out. But alas, the public will be safe from such firearm abusers. Anymore, a person who just wants to do a bit of hunting just isn’t a safe bet.

You don’t stop hunting because you grow old. You grow old because you stop hunting.

It's been like this for quite some time now.

If you've got a license -- don't let it lapse. If you're a new hunter, submit your application in the Winter.
