You need to keep proof of sex and to prove that it is infact a cow and not a calf. How you do that is up to you!

Friends just came back with a Cow already butchered and wrapped while at camp. They used a freezer and generator kit on a flat bed trailer to bring the meat back. They packed the sex part separately with the meat and were stopped for a spot check on the way home north of Gogama. The CO asked for the paperwork,checked everything and sent them on their way. No fuss,no muss.

We’ve been checked a number of times when bringing back cut and wrapped moose. We produce the required tag info, etc.,etc.,.. no problems. Once, they asked if they could take a sample for DNA check.

Not once its been prepared for consumption.

When I pick my deer up at the butcher shop its just packs of venison with no identifying features whatsoever.

The moose tagging instructions say in #3. keep the relevant sex and age identifying features noted above with the carcass until it has been transported to the site of processing and is being processed for long term storage. To me this means that once it is cut and wrapped it is now prepared for long term storage. it is not in long term storage but is prepared for it. So once it is cut and wrapped the sex and age identifiers don't need to be with it. Doesn't hurt to carry it if you want to. If you are transporting a freezer full i would have the tag on me if i'am in the vehicle transporting it or lay it in the freezer with the meat.
