F-150 vs Silverado

My 18 Silverado gets about the same for mileage, you can do much better on cruise at lower speeds if that's your thing Haha

I've been a Chevy guy my whole life but Ford would be my second choice.

I have owned nothing but chev but the one I have now (2015 Silverado 2500hd) has been a real let down. Lazy as the day is long, 25L/100 avg, paint flaking off, 9 brake calipers, torque converter split and destroyed the transmission at 175 000k and lots of exhaust bolts. On the plus side it has 215,000 on it now and I have to rebuild the front end, that's impressive.

It doesn't matter what you drive it seems like everything has something that plagues them. It seems like engines get better but bodies and wear Parts get worse. I usually based my decision on fuel mileage and whatever has the cheapest problems to fix.

RAM Truck, get a Hemi they are great on gas and are bulletproof...nicest exterior and interiors as well.

I've been trying to decide between the 2 for some time now. I like that ford has more engine options with the 2.7 and 3.5 turbos, the 5 litre and now the 3 litre diesel. So you can choose which is best suited for you. But I seem to find more chevs at a better price with the few options on it that I want.

That's the key....stop reading advertised specs and head to a couple of reputable garages (not dealers) and ask the mechanics what to avoid. They know all the horror stories about repairs to the truck makes that are constantly up on the hoist. And always pay the 1 hr inspection rate to go over a truck your truly interested in before you buy...could save you $1,000s .

I have a '13 150 with the 5.0 v8, around 15 l/100km is the average I get, trailering or not. My dad has a 18 150 with the eco boost, and he ranges from 13l/100 km cruising, but put a trailer on behind, it jumps to over 20l/100 km. I heard a rumour too that the v8s are being phased out totally from the truck line due to low demand. Tried Chevy when I bought, not as much space in the quad cabs in the back seat. Got a better deal from Ford, so went with them.

I would have to agree.. I was born a Chevy guy, but I'm currently driving a '17 ram... the price can't be beat and it hasn't been back to the garage for anything in 50000km ( I do my own maintenance).
The gas mileage is on par with anything else with a v8.. My last trip from Sudbury to Toronto was 12.5l/100 doing 120km/h the whole time ( when traffic allowed it). If you don't have a big boat or camper to tow, don't rule out the base v6 engine. It has enough power for day to day driving, and they save a fair bit of gas over a v8.
The diesels ( regardless of brand) are yet to prove themselves.. If you have a long commute to work on the highway it might be worth it, but short trips will kill the after treatment and give you problems. Also they want a $4000 upgrade for the diesel, so it takes alot of mileage to actually pay off ( about 100000km depending on fuel prices)

So not a huge fuel difference between the eco and v8

If you are using it as a truck and not a grocery getter get a v8 or diesel. My crappy eco boost uses over 17L

You don't buy a truck if fuel mileage is something you are worried about. Have you considered a diesel ?
