Rifled shotgun barrel cleaning
How often do you clean your rifled barrel? I clean my 220 every 5 shots when target practicing, I've only taken 3 shots with it in 5 years of hunting so I havnt cleaned it much.
I'm wondering how many shots it would take before accuracy is affected?

My savage 220 i clean after every outing, and oil it.
10-20 shots per outing.1-2 x a year.
I use Shooters Choice plastic wad removing solution, and it helps a lot with accuracy.
Otherwise plastic stays inside the barrel. Some, but not the best thing to have.
I had a Winny pump, had to lightly clean it every 5-10 shots.
Otherwise it was a really nice, accurate and productive deer gun.

Shooting off the bench with Sabots I notice my grouping starts to deteriorate after 4-5 shots. I clean the barrel with a solvent and brush usually after 3 shots. If I can, I clean the barrel every time its fired in the field (in the evening) after hunt.
Average the gun gets cleaned after I check the zero before the hunting season lol. Then around the same time the following year lol because I don't shoot at many deer during the shotgun season lol

Plastic, as in wads and sabots, for some reason or other , does attract moisture and if left for any length of time in a barrel will cause pitting and rust, a few shooters that I know of have found this out the hard way by neglecting to clean their shotguns soon after shooting.

I use a bore snake on my 11-87 12 ga. cantilevered c/w red dot scope before season then test fire then bore snake again before putting barrel away at end of season. Since original sighting in it has always been bang on target. I use the 2.75 inch Federal with the Barnes expander sabot. Remington now uses the Barnes expander in their shells and found them to be just as good.
