Side lock ready for next week
Was out yesterday behind the house while my toddler slept.
100gr of Pyrodex RS at 50 yards with a .490 patched round ball, dead on just sitting in a chair, perfect.
Love the smell of smoke.

Did the same..flipping between two guns for the week.
Traditions .50 cal ...PR's saboted QT 300gr bullets pushed by 80gr of BH209.
And Parker Hale's Musketoon shooting .58 ca .535 gr Minnie Balls (conical) pushed by 80 gr of Goex fg.
Both shoot 1" groupings at 50 yds and can plug the propane tank at 100yds...so good to go.
Good Luck to all the guys who love this season and are heading out to 'Make Smoke'....

MY PLAN: If the weather is clear: Lyman Great Plains Flintlock, otherwise Thompson Centre Hawken percussion. Both 54 cal...90 grains of FFG black powder...patch & ball. They shoot 1 1/2 inch groups at 50 yards.

The delay compared to shooting a centerfire is amazing, you can easily pull 6in on the trigger pull if you do not take your time.
Every shot was a dead deer, no problem there. I was 2in to the right of the bull but dead on level when I squeezed the trigger and was cautious of that delay. I could drift the sights but since I was not on a solid rest I will leave that for another day, this is well within the requirement for my hunt and range.
This thing will group round balls better than I can keep the sights on target but conicals are a no go, I had a feeling but since I got some for free I gave them a shot. Let me tell you, an 80gr load behind a 410gr conical gives the shoulder and cheek a good wack, ha ha.
