Which drill to buy for clam set up

I think I've narrowed it down to a DCD996 and a 5ah battery. There's a wholesaler out of Hamilton who will sell me that package for $250.

I won't, lol, but appreciate the heads up just finished building my first smitty sled. If all goes as planned.....I'll fill my tag next week, and then wait for the hard water Wishful thinking at it's best...

you'll be happy with the dewalt i've used them in industry for years . it won't let you down.

Thats all I've used as well around the house and cottage.....but unfortunately, In don't have the in-lb that the clam adapter needs to be efficient. The new drill will have plenty

You will be happy with that setup. I use the same drill and have two of the 5aH batteries. Depending on ice hardness and temperature I am getting 600 to 750 inches of 8 inch hole per battery as long as i keep the blades sharp.

I've been using the Milwaukee 18 volt fuel drill for 2 years with the Clam Plate and an 8" Fin Bore auger. I can drill more than 25 holes through 2 ft of ice on a 5 amp hour battery.( I carry a 2 amp extra that came with the drill but rarely use it as it struggles on that one.) The Milwaukee puts out 1200 inch pounds of torque which may be the highest you can find. I was using a Master Craft Maximum 20 volt hammer drill with my former 6" Fin Bore but it won't turn the 8" auger. CTC carries the Clam Plate.

I bought a Dewalt Drill/ Hammerdrill Brushless that came with a 6 amp hr. battery and have not looked back since the day of purchase. When I bought this it also came with an optional purchase of 2- 4 amp hr batteries at an incredibly low price of 0-$'s. Happy as hell for the past 2 yrs. Buy what you can for what you can as long as it is 18 v's, brushless and as big of an amp hr that you can.
