In both scenarios your tag number is compromised .
I realize what the debate is about. I just thought your comments about guarding your outdoors card # from the butcher were silly as every time you drop/transfer an animal with a tag you are providing it. As i stated I leave my tag with butcher - why chance it. That way you are covered regardless of what mood the CO is in.

The reality is, they changed the law. You now have to leave your tag with the butcher, when that's never been a requirement.
While at the same time, they changed the law that you don't have to affix a tag to the animal.
    Ridiculous really.

They changed the law.. But your tag was already always left on the deer for many years . So in theory it is the same as its always been [emoji1787] besides you dont have to attach if your always with your deer [emoji23][emoji54][emoji106]

So unless your whole group stays together including your drive to the butcher and the whole time at camp . Well then maybe you dont have to tag your deer .

But if only 1 guy takes in groups 4 deer they will be tagged [emoji39][emoji3526]

Great video from an expert. I'm a big believer in aging meat but there are some folks who don't believe it makes a difference. Our deer never got skinned even until just before going to the butcher. I do the same thing here at home, deer is hanging with hide on until being prepared to bring in the basement for processing.

    Cheers

So if your wanting to get a shoulder mount done you have to leave the cape and head there until its processed?

What if the butcher is doing 500 deer that week, He is not going to have room to store your cape and rack indoors in a freezer.

How do you convince a butcher to keep the tag? Ours said he didnt need them, He just copied info down off the tag and we took the heads home (tags still attached now month later).

Whole damn system is a joke. What would game warden charged me with for with having 3 deer heads WITH tags on, in the back of the truck after we just left the butcher?

He can charge the butcher for not keeping the tag? With what?

I’m not confused at all !
The next time you are at your butchers, take a look in his cooler, and let me know how many deer are hung in there with heads on and tags affixed, as you believe is the law....

Some here think you would have to make sure your butcher hung your deer in his cooler with the head on...
Because, in order for it to be tagged properly, the tag has to be affixed to a horn or slit in an ear.....
Like I’m sure that will ever happen !!!
