    Default Cast bullets

I decided to revisit a bullet I used when I first got my Savage .50 cal smokeless muzzy. It was a spitzer bullet I made from a custom mold I had made. Originally it made a 325 grain spitzer bullet with a boattail base. I use this with a sabot and kept it at speeds of around 2300 fps. This performed quite well and I was fortunate to harvest several deer and even managed to connect on a moose.
When I went to a .45 cal barrel and my goal was to go sabotless I abandoned the notion of this bullet.
Big Jack got me thinking after reading his remarks on another board re. Powder Coated cast bullets he was using from his 45/70.
I thought I would try these out with a moderate load in my .45 sabotless. If all works out it will enable me to spend a little more time at the range and save the pocketbook at the same time. I modified the mold and removed most of the boattail and shaved about 25 grains doing so which cast a 300 grain bullet ( which is my preference ).
Here's a pic of the cast bullets

Are you going to powder coat these or use a more traditional lube ?

Very nice, did you modify the mold yourself?

I do plan on shooting these powder coated with a veggie wag between the powder/bullet, here's a pic of some that I've done and full form sized them.
Yes the mold work was done by a buddy of mine, this style wasn't available, it casts a .456/7 dia. slug

Those look purdy. Have you heated them for an hour at 400 then dunked them in ice water?

Brought up BHN from 10 to 18 ish

Hey if you want to try some of those PC bullets I water quenched let me know. The gas check is a nice touch on them.

These have been through the sizer and are ready for the 45-70 or FF die.
