Because you work at the shop and do not own it I can see your frustration but basically your shop is part of the problem unless you educate them right on the spot and maybe suggest a firearm instead.
The other culprit in the equation to me is the Ministry because of the gun restrictions and the longer seasons and better area,s for bow hunters.
Yeah, actually I do try to educate them. I'm not silent about it.

I partially blame advertising. "Meet your next rifle".

I think most people here agree with the OP. The issue is that there was a thread where a guy shot a deer at 70 yards (?) with his crossbow just a few weeks ago. That thread didn't go too well, so a lot of people here are tired of talking about this subject.

Has too much time on their hands
I have read countless threads on here, bashing others, claiming nobody has any business shooting at big game over 100+ yards with a rifle, or semi autos are not accurate and all that use them spraynprey when they see an animal. Theres lots of BS being spewed by the uneducated every where. I would suggest spending more time with your customers and educate them but be polite and make them feel they've gained something during their time in your shop throughout their purchase process. Customers that get taken care of will feel good about their purchase most often will become repeat customers.

Keep up the good work, never mind the naysayer's on this forum!
Educate them both on this forum and at your work place.

I think its great that the OP is "educating" customers" face to face..I find it funny with the claim "I hear it all the time"..implying this desire for long shots is rampant among hunters..maybe I hang with the wrong crowd but all the hunters I know spend countless hard earned dollars and hours of time practicing precise shooting and upgrading arrows, bows or crossbows to be as accurate and lethal as possible. These same guys all respect the game too much to take these long distance pokes he is referring to..stop implying it "happens all the time" and painting the majority of hunters with a bad brush, we get enough bad press and negativity from the anti-hunters already.

Here we have new people getting into bow hunting for the first time and learning from the industry to take stupid shots. It's important to educate these people about these situations that shots like these are unethical. It's not okay to take a shot like that on a deer and people need to hear it from other more experienced hunters.
Also, these are not isolated events. I hear these stories constantly to a point where they are at epidemic proportions. It's not good for hunting and it's not good for our sport.
As said, most of us agree with you here. The problem is, the newer hunters don't want to hear what the experienced hunters have to say because what the marketers and TV shows promise sounds better.
