Default Suggestions on planting a field for upland cover

Just looking for some opinions on what could be planted in a field to promote upland bird habit as well as make good cover for hunting. A bonus would be if it doubles as food for deer.
    Thanks,

First off I'd use millet and flax. Both good food sources and they stand up pretty well.
Only plant strips and allow the rest to grow up providing cover for the birds.
What are you planning to release?
