I am not denigrating these special ed kids an any way shape or form, but you have to look at life from their prospective and if they see that there is not much of a future for them , why not join the armed forces where they are accepted.
I know of a couple and that's what they did, served their terms , retired and are quite happy.

I knew if I mentioned the 'armed forces', I would get a reply about how good the challenged could be in that setting. Excellent. Agreed, we must enable those with challenges to reach their full potential. My wife was a special ed and ESL teacher for 32 years. Snow , you seemed to imply that special ed students found an appropriate place for themselves as cops or civic workers. Why would you mention that tale of your high school peers? Sure sounded like an attempt at an affront to me. I don't think that to say someones chosen profession, has 'special ed' , people, as you called them, employed, is as much of an insult, as you think it is. There are many rewarding roles they can fill , in any corporation or business.

True. No problem with special ed. Many of them are smarter then kids in "Regular" classes. The problem is that in the past "anyone" that was outside the normal scale got sent to special ed.

It's a sore spot that I saw a couple friends and general good people pushed into something, simply because they were native. They tried the same thing with my sister, and both her kids.

As for it being an insult, think of it this way. Gilroy paints the image of police being the top of the class, only the elite can join type people. So it was more of a poke at him, that "us" Normal people can be cops too.

I guess if you can point out where I SAID THIS anywhere IN THIS THREAD or even on another thread you can point it out?

Gilroy did however mention that all your special education school mates were pretty smart to have police and union jobs,so what happened to you,you were normal? Next.

Gilroy, speaking of your self in the third person is not good.
Please talk to a medical professional, you may have had a silent stroke.

As for me? Yup joined in Jan 1986, after I left applied to RCMP. Got told I did not have much of a chance, because there was a quota of NON-WHITE males that had to be filled..
    Nothing RACIST there.
