Should save a lot of calves.

Looks like they have changed the dates to avoid the back to back moose/deer hunts in the south. Its not clear if they mean 2020 or 2021 though?

If I'm understanding the new system correctly, even though we paid the $15 non-refundable draw entry fee and were unsuccessful,we can still buy a license for $35 to party hunt with someone who was successful. That actually might be a better system for those who still hunt in groups. There's a higher chance of someone in the group getting a tag. Someone please jump in if I'm misunderstanding.
If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

I really like this, keep the calf/cow and calf tags low for a while to get the numbers back up and adjust them based on localized populations, just as we do the antlerless deer tags.
The $200 for a bull does not seem like a lot to me, this is similar to the Yukon system, except in the Yukon you pay a harvest fee after you get an animal.
I just hope this starts to bring back the numbers.
Sorry if I misunderstood your post, but I think you still have to pay $15 to apply even if you are up for a tag. It’s an “application to hunt” fee as much as a draw fee.

Yes, that’s what I believe as well. I read someplace there was also to be the availability to turn down a tag, in the event in a group situation, your group ended up with multiple tags. You would keep your points if you refused a tag......anyone else read this ?

Does anyone know if a calf tag counts as success and resets your points to 0?

The cost isn't a big deal when you look back at what you have spent over the years and could only hunt calves. Which how often were people successful. Maybe they need to create more habitat for moose and deer they can't expect high population if there's no food

The lack of logging has resulted in habitat loss. I don’t see that changing any time soon.

Under the new system, yes. Calf tags will only be issued in certain WMU's according to harvest data and aerial counts. That's a good thing,IMO.
