    Default Late Hot Laker weekend

Didn’t have time to post last weekend Laker outing.
25 to 30 km winds, luckily temps around 4 degrees. Beautiful day.
Slow start for these natural laker wonders. After 3-4 hours buddy said he didn’t have confidence in my new spot. I kept drilling to find the structure I was looking for. Finally hooked on to a 3-4 pounder 300’ from buddy. He ran over, looked at fish then ran back to get his gear and snowmobile. We were on snowshoes the whole day as there was 14” to 16” of slush.
After an hour or so buddy hooked on to something big. I dropped my line to go spot him. This thing didn’t want to come up, buddy would reel a few feet then it would take off for a ways. After 6-7 minute I finally seen it’s face and grabbed it and threw it on the ice. 32” and 14 lb. Half the tail fin was missing.

On Sunday it was another great day, went alone to a lake a few miles from the camp. Got 3 small lakers and 4 perch within 2 hours. Another great day.

    Might go back tomorrow.

Looks like a great outing! I can empathize on the slush, our poor quads are still thawing out.

The bite seemed to be on last weekend, buddy managed two smaller pike and a 28" laker through the same hole, 6 feet of water. I was 80 feet away and snagged a 21" Eye.

Best of luck if you get out this weekend.

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

Another great day on the ice. Was suppose to go with my daughter, she backed out again. She regrets it again. Haha. It takes 3 hours from my house to my spot on the lake, so left early at 6. Caught a 20” around 10 am then a few bites but real slow till around 12:45 then it got really wild. Lots of bites at bottom and all the way right under the ice. Finally caught a 22” and 24” minutes later. These natural lake trout are dark coloured but the 24” was almost black. It was colder this am but warmed up to 1 degree by afternoon. Great day. Three hours to get back home just in time for supper. Can’t wait for next weekend.
