That also made no sense to me especially when the government has been more interested in managing money coming in rather than moose populations
It will be interesting to see how they come up with any information regarding how many points they figure are needed to draw a tag in a WMU when consecutive tag purchases are not needed

Still someone right now may have applied the last 6 years then not apply for 5 then come out of the wood work. Do they have 6 points?. Do points remain with u until u draw a tag? Lots of jurisdictions make u apply every year or buy a point to maintain your status.

No draw entry,no point. Simply put,if you only have 6 draws in a ten (or more) year period,there's still only 6 points. Once a tag is drawn or transferred,point counts reset to 0. The more I read,the more I like this system. I'm glad to see the southern opening date is going back to the 3rd Monday in October instead of the Saturday. That really jammed up a lot of hunting camps.

Right now by managing a group application you can guarantee yourself a tag or by applying in a northern unit generally predict your success. With the limited tags it will be interesting to see if there is any way for a archery moose hunter to predict that or how many years it will take for that predictability to take shape. I still think the problem will be having people hold points and not having to apply every year to maintain status. It just does not seem clear how u can plan or predict when u will get a tag

An opportunistic person could turn this new tag system to their advantage. Keep applying for $15 every year until enough points are accumulated based on the criteria for a specific or other WMU. Place an advertisement indicating they are willing to travel and let the bidding begin. It will be much more predictable with the new system than now being a crap shoot when applying as an individual.

Here is my scenario. I have been applying for 16 years. 4 years ago I missed a year applying. I wonder if I get points back to the year I forgot or all 15 years.

I thought i read they are only going back 5 years some where then read it since you started to apply without getting a tag so kinda confused

So I might have this whole new moose draw system wrong but the area I hunt in gave out 38 bull tags in 2018 and 2172 first choice hunters applied my math comes up with a tag every 57 years if this stats stay the same. Cow tag would take 38 years. So the people that were successful last year might die before they ever get another tag. My thoughts why are there no moose? Predators? Poachers? And if numbers are to low close the season in some areas. But like you say it's about the money not the population
