Running out of toilet paper ... lol.

I'd much sooner have non-perishable food items and security in water supply before I cared about toilet paper.
That is why you always saw Eatons and Simpsons catalogues in the outhouses, back then they were not printed on shiny paper.

Yep-and the reason many millions of Canadians actually need toilet papers is-they DO NOT have outhouses.
One could just imagine how long will it take the toilet to plug BADLY with Catalogue-Newspaper-other hard dissolvable papers.

And then -NO PLUMBER to come out to fix the major clog, because all of them are in Quarantine

Your Question was; "What did people do before toilet paper was invented, "

Here is one answer; Before the advent of modern toilet paper many different materials were used for the same purposes. Different materials were used depending upon the country, weather conditions, social customs and status. People used leaves, grass, ferns, corn cobs, maize, fruit skins, seashells, stone, sand, moss, snow and water.

    1857,
Around 1857, Joseph Gayetty came up with the first commercially available toilet paper in the United States.

[QUOTE=jaycee;1106827]Your Question was; "What did people do before toilet paper was invented, "

Jaycee-i never asked that-someone else did.

However i must tell You i came from an area, where ppl were using newspapers til mid 70-is,on regular bases.
Toilet paper was luxury. It came into play only when indoor toilets were the next thing............it was needed for obvious reasons.

I happened to go once to a guys house-with the only toilet being an outhouse..........in mid 80's!!! He was using a corn cob.It was hanging on a string in the outhouse.
It was obvious,he was using the corn cob...he was quite a "modern person" ,because he was applying way back then the -REUSE principle to it too.

Summer will soon be here. Aster macrophyllus will be the most popular and loved plant in Ontario.

Wait a minute, are we venturing back to the stone age or headed for a zombie apocalypse that I haven't heard of? Leaves, newspaper and corn cobs!

I will build a bed out of corn cobs before I scratch captain pucker hole with one. I've got all kinds of old t shirts and work shirts I'd be using first! Sundays may get the treat of flannel pajamas or fleece! Curtains gone, bedsheets gone......

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?
