The fact the government cant even give numbers because it will be a shif show.
Some have already said they dont want to put numbers on to stop the panic. Canada alone could loose hundreds of thousands of lives in a short time. But they wont give you numbers. It will scare them... with a worse case scenario.

After all, I have more than just myself to be responsible for. So I did.
Been fairly comfortable over the last couple of weeks while watching this situation unfold, but this has gotten very big in the last couple of days. I think the next few months will reshape the world in a way. It's happening now, and we've got ringside seats.
Yes, we can continue to compare this to the flu. I was doing the same a few weeks ago. The fact is, we know how seasonal influenza works. We've lived with it forever. It's miserable to be stricken with it but unless you're otherwise ill, the vast majority of people generally recover. It's so un-scary to us that we don't even try very hard to protect ourselves from it. It's not "newsworthy".
Sure, we've all probably had a coronavirus of some form or another, but this particular one is new... "novel". It's a relative unknown to us, none of us are immune to it, and most of us are going to get it. Most of us will be fine, but some of us will die. I don't know about the rest of you, but if someone told me that out of 100 of us in a room, 3 or 4 of us aren't walking out, I wouldn't be too comfortable with those odds.
The media hype is both addictive and deafening. Maybe the virus isn't as deadly as advertised, maybe it is. The worldwide panic, the stockmarket free fall and the potential for a societal breakdown are very real, and we all should be concerned and aware. I'm not suggesting we join in the panic, I'm suggesting that everyone use their heads. What is there to gain by sitting in denial until you realize you might have been wrong?
This might be one of my craziest posts, but if that's the worst of it, I can live with that.

A sensible post, you’ve basically mirrored my take on this situation.

This is one of my big beef with this whole situation.
There is so much fear mongering and no real facts from the government..
It Italy 15000 pl got the virus. As of yesterday. About 1000 died.North Italy mostly.Sad.
BUT
No one ewer talks about-OUT FROM HOW MANY???
Milan alone has population of 1.3 million .
So-1.2 % gets the virus.
Out from the 1.2% ,8 % dies.This is like 0.0008 % of the population!
Sad,but:
Does it justify all the panic??
Or as someone said-this makes the news............maybe news generates itself!
Panic, fear mongering took over ,and the" inertia" rules.

For example, I have multiple jugs of clothing detergent, dish detergent, canned food, a freezer full of food, etc. Oh yes, and a package of sealed toilet paper haha. Going to school with people who lived in town and seeing how their parents stocked their houses (they didn't) versus looking at the homes of my fellow country bubkins, I concluded this might be a rural living practice. When I use the last of the dish detergent, I'm not dropping everything to go into town to go get another bottle. I go downstairs and grab one of the three that have been downstairs since the last sale. Similarly, when I was dating my high school boyfriend, I was shocked to see there was never food in the house. Zehrs was just a couple blocks away, and they always just went and bought food to eat that day. It was such a shock from the way I was raised. Now I'm still rural and I still keep food and supplies handy so I never find myself in dire straits because I'm out. It's Canada, we get bad winters like January 2019. I like to have food on hand to make my life easier.
So, my question -- is this a country living thing? If you are stocked up and in the country, this is normal, but if you're stocked up and in town, you're a hoarder? Thoughts?
Rural people tend to have more on hand to prevent repeated and unnecessary trips to town. There's always rice, pasta and canned food in our pantry and meat and vegetables in the freezer. When we do go into town we buy bulk paper towels and toilet paper when they are on sale and always have a least a dozen rolls of each or more at home.

I live in a fairly rural area. Now I'm not a "prepper" by any stretch, but I do have a stocked pantry with dry goods, canned goods, and cleaning supplies. My freezer is always kept at between full and 50%. I have 3x jerry cans which are 60L, and my gen is kept full at all times.
My outside range for being able to shelter in place, would likely be approx 45-50 days.
The TP thing is absolutely weird. I happened to go out Friday night to the general store, and there were lots of 4 packs in stock, so i bought a couple, because I couldn't recall how much i had at the house ( turns out I had almost two full cases).
The funny thing is...if SHTF, and it got down to it, are you really worried about how much TP you have? I'm more concerned with fuel, groceries, and ammo.
*Walks down the street to the neighbors who bought a minivan full of TP*
"Howdy neighbor, can you spare a few rolls of TP?"
"No"
"Allow me to re-phrase. If you could spare a few rolls of TP, it would be appreciated, because the alternate plan B, is that I take ALL your TP, and I hand you one roll to dress the wound I'll put in you"....

We went to the neighbors Saturday to see she had everything she needed an elderly lady. She said she is good till September she says she buys a 72 pack and is good for the entire year. Every September she buys toilet paper lol. We used 6 rolls since Thursday [emoji1787] .
When we were leaving I said I had to head back and clean some whitefish. She said mmm
So I went back with a fresh bag of fillets for her [emoji106].
Wife text the other neighbor asked if they were good. The reply back was he has never had kids but they have baby wipes now lol.
