The Province has said, thru a News release from the MNRF, that Hunting and fishing seasons are NOT...NOT canceled.

Municipalities have closed boat launches.. and the OPP have said boating is not 'essential' travel...So if you can find a place to fish while maintaining social distance ...Yes it's perfectly (legally) OK.

Understood ... I am not referring to the law here, I am referring to people's opinions and support for that petition to keep the season closed. It's hypocritical.

OPP can only enforce the laws in place.
There are no laws about social distancing for groups of 4 or less.
And currently there is also no provincial laws prohibiting traveling.
Lots of recommendations but no laws for the OPP to act on for these 2 things.

There are municiple by-laws preventing people from being closer than 2 meters apart. The province has that as a guideline (last time I checked), but certain municipalities like Oakville, have made it law. So you need to look at more than the provincial laws.

The “law” is the EMA.... the offences are failing to obey an “Order” made pursuant to the EMA. The EMA authorizes government to make such Orders as deemed necessary......
Presently, there are no Orders, dealing with social distancing, or nonessential travel. There is an Order preventing gatherings of more than 5 people.
I have heard some horror stories of bogus charges being laid, due to misinformation by LEOs or lack of understanding of the Act.
I hope people go to court to straighten these out !!

That isn't totally correct. There are orders that deal with social distancing. Oakville by-law has been passed making it illegal for two people from different households to be closer than 2m apart, furthermore a dog cannot have a leash that is longer than 2m. Infractions are subject to fines up to $100,000. You need to check municipal by-laws!

A buddy told me today, someone was told..( you get the drift ), that they heard of two guys rollerblading in a street were charged because they were not distancing ????
This is the type of information that causes social media to explode !!!!
I have no doubt that some bogus charges are being laid.....!

Actually that is correct. It happened in Oakville. I believe a father and his son. The infraction was they were roller blading on public grounds (a community center parking lot) which was closed (with warning signs) due to a COVID order. The fine will stick.

If you are travelling in a car with a passenger through Oakville and that passenger is not from your household, you can get fined, as you violate the 2m min spacing by-law.

Not sure ... they can likely present evidence to the police, local and possibly municipal. I think they are able to issue trespassing tickets, which people would do if they are found in conservation areas and parks that have been closed by order. I'm not sure the jurisdiction, but no doubt anything they observe can be used as evidence that can be passed along to the police.

Ok, so they were charged because they were on closed public areas.....not because of social distancing. As far as a by-law in Oakville, I call BS, until someone posts the actual bylaw. If not, it’s just more fake news !! IMHO...

The Offence is :

The fine for failing to comply with the Ontario Emergency and Civil Protection Act is $750. A victim surcharge brings the fine to $880.

When discussing the tickets in a teleconference on Monday, Watson said it was “unfortunate but necessary to make certain people understand we’re all responsible to stop the spread of this deadly virus.”

Watson says one person received two tickets totalling $2,000 for not respecting provincial orders and being verbally aggressive with a bylaw officer.

Ottawa Bylaw officers issued 43 tickets over the weekend to people hanging out in parks, gathering in groups larger than five and non-essential businesses remaining open during the COVID-19 pandemic.

So far that includes:

Under Ontario’s Emergency Management and Civil Protect Act, all parks are closed except to walk through and non-essential businesses must remain closed.

Ottawa Bylaw said on Friday it would start issuing tickets for:

Gatherings of five or more people in public and private residences
People congregating in parks/using park facilities or equipment

Non-essential retail businesses continuing to operate.

I agree wholeheartedly ! Those offences are violating an Order. The Orders are identified in your post. To date,,,,, there is no Order made that prevents people from being less than 2m apart! The Order is....group gatherings of more than 5 people..... the social distancing, unnecessary travel, washing your gropers, wearing a mask, etc, are only recommendations....so far ! That’s not to say there could not be more Orders made concerning those recommendations.... don’t confuse recommendations with actual Orders!! This is what is happening...
