As a law abiding Gun owner I've never lost a gun....can't be said for the RCMP:
According to another set of documents released through access to information legislation, that would include a Smith & Wesson 5946 RCMP service pistol that was lost by someone on the prime minister’s protection detail back in 2007.
The RCMP detachment in North Battleford, Sask., lost a fully-automatic C8 — the type of rifle used by Canada’s military.
The RCMP also had a Federal M201-Z stolen from their warehouse. That gun is used to fire teargas or other non-lethal rounds.

Apparently it was assault, which would have precluded same.

No class
The stricter gun control legislation was on the way and this tragic incident does not play into the mix in any event.
The Canadian public have spoken in the last election and a promise was made and a promise will be kept. The fact that some of you guys want to make political hay with this incident is very sad.

Gilroy,
Mike's highlighting some background info. Not new, not a secret. He's not disparaging anyone, nor is he alleging anything.
If this turns out that this horrible incident was exacerbated by the RCMPs own equipment, then his comment is in fact fairly insightful.
What lacked class? Our PM trotting out the old "gun control" statement while this entire situation was still fluid.
The fact that nothing else has flowed forth is quite telling however.

You mean how the Liberal Party barely put together a minority government? Yes, sounded like a resounding statement of confidence from the Canadian Public.
If the Liberals, and the RCMP attempt to use this as a platform with which to try and impose further gun control measures, they are going to have to definitively outline how said measures would have prevented this.

The Prime Minister responded to questions by the media about the incident in his daily briefings to the nation. He has to answer the questions posed to him.If the RCMP officer was killed after being overpowered by the suspect and killed with her own weapon, its not exactly the same as "losing a gun".

No it's not.
If it turns out that her weapon, and the C8 were further employed in this incident, then the fallout may be undesirable on the part of the RCMP, and the feds.
Let's not forget, it was the inquiry from the 2014 Moncton shootings which put more firepower in the hands of single occupant RCMP cruisers in the first place.
