They campaigned on banning more guns and Turdhole signed Canada up for the UN small arms treaty. The Libs had a gathering in January to discuss their gun banning bill.

Nothing has really changed since the tragic events in Nova Scotia. Trudeau promised tighter gun laws, campaigned on them, won the election and was in the process of implementing them. COVID-19 slowed the process along with a variety of other legislative initiatives unrelated to the pandemic.

COVID-19 was not, despite the wistful dreams of some gun owners, going to result in the government giving up their proposed ban on military-style semi- automatic rifles. All that last Sunday did was speed up the timetable.

Our already stringent controls and checks in place did not prevent this; any more than arbitrarily giving powers to Municipalities to "ban" certain types of firearms.

It was used as an immediate talking point while things were still fluid, then the firearms angle went silent, because those who would choose to take advantage of this tragedy to push the gun control agenda realized that there was no angle on this.

It in fact lends itself to that which the gun lobby has been indicating all along. More legislation / confiscation, reclassification, doesn't prevent those that would choose to do harm.

If a guy has a PAL and does harm with a gun some on here cry that the PAL system does not work and its a waste of time.

If a career criminal does harm with a gun some on here cry criminals don't get PAL,s and the system does not work.

So what system would you guys like, should we have an American 2nd amendment one were everybody and their granny can possess an AR 15 with a 30 round clip. Handguns for all, why stop there maybe a Texas style town ordinance that orders every citizen to carry a handgun.

Now I am sure the NRA types out there are salivating as they read these suggestions,but we are in Canada its its probably not going to happen.

The gun control issue was not used as an immediate talking point by the Prime Minister or Minister Blair,it was brought up by the FREE press.
