You and the son probably doubled-out because you didn't have your big cups of Timmy's before you went to sit. If you'd had it, chances are you both would have been hunched over some brush pile at prime time when the birds were coming to the decoys, both with your pants down, barking out mud. That damn coffee of theirs goes through me like dirty old chip fryer grease through a dump bear.
