Turkeys on the Roost
I haven't been very active on here in years since life has brought me a couple of little ones which require full time attention. I thought I'd share a few things I've learned over the years about roosted birds. I find that the best days to hunt a roost and be able to reliably predict where they'll flydown to are windy days. Wednesday morning we had 20 to 30 km northwestern winds. I knew where a gobbler group was roosted. I was able to get setup within 70 yards of them. I had my mouth call in and did not place any decoys to limit the amount of movement I was making in the dark. I sat patiently waiting for the birds to wake up and fought the urge to call to them on the roost to avoid giving away my position. I was setup directly to the south of them. When the birds were ready to flydown, they all spun on the trees and were pointed into the wind. The birds flew down into the wind and dropped down within 30 yards from me. I passed on the bird since it was a jake and there's alot of season left and I took a 2 year old Tom the day earlier. Hope this helps.

Good tip never thought about that before.
