I always apply for a doe tag at our hunt camp. However we limit our harvest of does , to one or two at most. Tags are hard to get there , so usually don't draw more than that anyway. I apply for second choice in 82 , but at present our doe population appears to be low, so I will pass , on harvesting a doe. Will take a buck , for the freezer, prefer a nice spike. I guess it is a personal choice, just because you have a tag, doesn't mean you must fill it. Good luck in the draws. old243

I am about the same old 243.Apply for anlerless tag ,also get many times additional tag for 82A-lately antlerless ,bow only.Use the tag as an opportunity to go out as much as i can.
I always hope to harvest a buck, and many times passed a doe ,many times in the early part of the season.Got skunked 2 x on purpose. Both times it was the end of the season, had 2 or 4 does within nice crossbow shooting range ,and closed the season without a harvest, just because the population was at the time really low-it is somewhat still low. But,i feel ,it is slowly rebounding.

Now-back in the days, when there was all kinds of deer, and all kind of additional tag,i would take the first legal deer within shooting range. If it was a doe- would try the rest of the season for a buck.If it was a buck-would try for another one.Sometimes did not happen-but at least i did not get skunked.AND had great opportunities to go out.

I was told ,and i can see here also ,sometimes ppl somewhat frown if one chooses not to go for a doe-fawn or cow-calf.Claiming antler does not taste for nothing,or they hunt for meat...so what is the fuss for the antlers.
My humble opinion is -to each their own,but if and when there is a need to preserve the population, female members of the species would be better off if passed on.
If we want to hunt in the future.

At the end-we know from two great outdoors man,and major influences on hunting and conservation:Aldo Leopold and Teddy Roosevelt,if we hunters do not take care of the wild game,no one will!
