Shell's Pier today
I went out with my other nephew today. We left Fisherman's Pier just after 6am and headed toward shell's pier.... Started off in 110FOW and hook into a fish right away.... Spin Doctor and Fly 50down..... Lost it by the boat.... an hour later we got another on a spoon but lost that one too...... After a couple of hours of getting nothing, changing depths from 80-150FOW we decided to head out to the blue zone.... We hit 240FOW and fished the area for an hour with nothing to show for it..... Decided to head back toward Fishermans's Pier where we landed our only fish of the day, a nice rainbow...... 80FOW, 30' down on a blue spoon......
We opened it up to clean it (went to cut the stomach open to see what it was eating) and to my surprise nothing but insects.... His entire stomach was full of eaten bugs/flies, moths.... (lots of lady bugs too)... I am guessing the rainbows are hitting the surface in the shallower water first thing in the morning....
Next time out we are going to fish the top portion of shallow water at least for the first couple of hours and see if we can hit these fish before the sun gets too high in the sky.....
