Trap dye touch up.

I plan to re-dye the traps this summer. Last time was the initial dye & wax three years ago when they were new.

Will boil in 40 to 45 liters water, 20 traps.
Most traps are still good but about 4 rusted up a lot.

2 lb of logwood crystals are needed for initial dye on this amount of water and traps.

For a touch up, should 1 lb of crystals be good? Or should I go with the proper 2 lb.

Wondering if I can save the extra $12 or will it be beneficial to spend it on the second package.

If you have heavy rust on some I would think the full strength solution would be better, specially for only $12.

I started using speed dip and I have no regrets. Lasts several years, save your hands and hides from rust staining.

For the number I need to dye, I am comfortable spending a weekend in the backyard. An August Saturday to dye traps, and Sunday to wax dip.
Beaver and Muskrat traps then go back in box. Coyote traps hang in a tree till season start.

I am reluctant on the speed dip since I would need to dispose of the 1 or 2 gallons of Coleman Fuel or gas when done.
Would have to take pails of used fluid north on trailer and then make a massive bon fire to dispose of.
Plus would have to store under deck of house till fall when summer burn ban is lifted.

Disposal of leftover dye solution is my deciding factor to stay with logwood.

Had good luck with the formula one dye no gas just add water to thin. This year I just cut some flat black paint I had with varsol and dipped mine.

Place in a pail or any other container and seal. Use as needed latter , why would you dispose it ?
I also used a Wagner paint sprayer and sprayed it under my truck on frame and brake lines
