Default It begins.......prices in select cities going up.

Well with all the defund the police talk, and civil unrest happening in some places it was bound to happen.

Companies are refusing to send drivers to deliver or pickup loads in any city that has or is talking about defunding police.

Other cities are more lucky. They will only have to pay extra to have food and supplies delivered. Companies are adding a "Dangerous Location " fee to ever load going to some areas.

    The fee is to
    1) mitigate the insurance risk( keeps insurance rate low) of loss of equipment and cargo.

    2) pay drivers for the extra risk and stress of delivery to " Dangerous Location(s)". The Danger pay is being paid per drop.

Generally that means any delivery with in a 100 mile radius of the city center.

An example would be if Toronto was on the list. The radius would cover a large part of Central ontario.

From about London on the west to Bellville in the east. Fort Erie in the south to north of Barrie.

If Buffalo NY goes on the list things will be interesting...

Not to bad.. work for four days get paid for seven or eight.

But the prices are going to go wild.

Not sure about that..They are generally only moving freight terminal to terminal.

Think the truck that delivers to the builders supply warehouse and sits on the street. Or the truck doing multiple drops to grocery stores in the middle of the night.

UPS, FEDEX, Canada Post is like going between armed compounds in enemy territory. General freight is more like living outside the wire for a week or two.

I am not sure how to describe it right off the top of my head.

One of the most dangerous routes for a driver (in Canada) is down the 401 corridor between Montreal and Toronto... heard horrifying stories.

I guess the government will need to raise taxes then. As I would be willing to bet half of the miscreants causing this shyte show are on suckling on the teat of the social welfare system as most people with Jobs can't be out all hours of the night rioting. So the government will have to supplement their income a little more to cover the extra cost.

Ok. I think I was answering the wrong question.

Will it effect local package and mail ?

It very well could. If you order something or send something, and the pickup or delivery address is in the no go zone.

The 401 is listed as one of the most deadly/Dangerous highways in a World wide ranking.

Welfare is a state run Agency. The states that this is happening in....well let's just say they already have people leaving as the taxes are too high.

This is a very interesting topic. Imagine how many people will be outraged by a price increase, yet most of them will have no idea they've caused it.

I feel bad for any driver having to endure a riot or any of these common scenes that are all over the internet these days. City traffic is torture enough without the risk of being literally tortured or killed.
