We always used a bit of both, in the last 10 years both companies slacked off on quality to the point that I’ve replaced my “pro quality” Stihl and Husky saws with Echo saws that do just as well for half the price

I actually went and looked at them, salesmen didn’t convince me, sometimes the unknown decides for you. It looked like a good product. I just don’t know anyone using them that I can check with.

I used to do Arborist work and we only ran Husqvarna's from the small "up in the tree" saws to the big boys, we had one Echo that we would use as a back up and to be honest i like it just as much when bucking up wood on the ground etc.

Had a XP272 (supposed to be a professional saw) that spent more time getty warranty repair than being used. Non-stop cylinder scoring due to the POS piston ring design. $1000 saw and I finally ditched it at a loss. My backside still hurts from that transaction. Then my friend got a XP395 to run a big chainsaw mill. I think it cost him close to 2K by the time he bought the extra oiler, long bar, and ripping chain. It didn't even last a week. Same deal with the rings. If I say the word Husky around him his face gets real red, then some very bad language falls out of him.

Yes, those kind of experiences would turn me off also. Luckily my 257 is 22 years old and never gave me any problems.

My one grandpa always had a Husky, older models as he has been gone for a while now. I remember the grease nipples and having to grease the chain yourself, no oiler on it, those things never died. My other grandpa never had any money, he ran homelites forever, they are still running and he has also been gone for a while. He lived in NE Ontario and burned wood as his sole source of heat, tamarack and spruce and a couple dozen face cord a year, always ran, maybe it was the way he held his mouth, ha ha.

Seems like Huskys and Echos are good saws. For me, I just stick to what I can get the best service for. My next door neighbour happens to own the local stihl dealer. So it's easy decision for me066.JPG

Nice. Man must take an hour to sharpen that sucker. I debated a month between a 15” and a 16” bar. Haha

The saw is only as good as sharping. Chains and bars need attention or you just beat the chit outta the saw.
