    I have had an appointment for next week for heart worm. I made it 2 weeks ago, they were hesitant but said OK.

    How old are these dogs that need spay/neuter so urgently? Nothing wrong with putting it off unless the dog's life it in danger. 99% of dogs are fixed too early anyway.

    Agreed. Unless it is a life-threatening emergency, spay/neuter surgery is definitely elective

    Unless the clinic is on the early spay / neuter "agenda", many vets have moved to (or are agreeing with owners who wait if they want to spay / neuter) until the dog is 20-24 months old when the dog has fully developed and their growth plates have closed. Those hormones are in there for a reason.
