    Default Boolit Lube for Minnie Balls

    I hate having to lube on the range..so I made a pre-lube tray for my .58 cal Minnie Balls.

    I don't like to get lube in the cup on the bottom of the boolit. I discovered that a .45 cal ball fits perfectly in the cup to block the lube. So I picked up two trays at the the $store that stacked and left a space between them. I counter sunk holes in the top tray to hold the .45 balls underneath the Minnie Ball. The air space between the tray provide space for the bottom of the .45 ball, as well helps cool the wax quicker.

    The lube: the same recipe as Emmert's Homemade Lube from the web;

    50% Bee’s Wax
    40% Crisco
    10% Lanolin.

    To mix 12 oz;

    6oz Bees Wax
    5oz Crisco
    1oz Lanolin

    I use a slow cooker as a double boiler (add water, set to saute, suspend bowl over it ) and melt the ingredients.

    Pour liquid lube into the upper tray and let cool/harden. Then lift the top tray off and use a push tool to poke the .45 / Minnie out of the wax. This prevent damaging the boolit by pulling on it with pliers to get them out of the wax.

    Works great.

    Also discovered that the lube did get a little soft in the 30+ temps this summer so I bought some of those weekly pill dispensers at the $store for $1 ea and the prelubed boolits fit perfectly. That stores in the fridge freezer during the summer and is handy for taking out to the load table.
