Default went for a swim today

Had a fun solo hunt. missed a few times and switched things up, managed to call a goose in and of course once it's down it scoots from the knee deep water and hits the deep stuff. I'm not a dog hunter but definitely appreciate the work you all do after that swim

Gotta do what you have to do lol did you have to swim? Maybe next time bring the fishing rod with you. I know it’s another thing to carry but in a pinch could help you out

learned that lesson myself first year hunting in October up near Kapuskasing years ago. We were hunting for grouse and shot a couple ducks in the middle of a pond that was next to freezing water temps, had skim ice on it the next morning... But we were camping out trying to eat what we harvested so stripped all my clothes off and went for a swim. Of course my perv brother took pics of the whole ordeal. Didn't help I provoked him by putting the duck in my mouth and doggy paddling back to shore like a good ol hunting dog does lol good times on that "hunting" trip.

I'd like to have seen that.

I thought I was the only one!

Only problem on my end was that I did not know the pond was full off suspended mud and being half sasquatch in the body hair department the mud stuck to me. Of course my buddy had a picture of this ordeal to show folks when he stood as the best man in my wedding.......

How is it one careless cigarette can cause a forest fire, but it takes a whole box of matches to light a campfire?

I carry a collapsible rod with braided line and a homemade "retriever" made from a wood dowel and a couple huge treble hooks. At least when I don't have a boat.

    I'm loving this thread lol

These are indeed the joys of hunting with a trained retriever last season, took my big red machine out for her first goose hunt. I knocked down two, one was done, one was on the move. I don't know what I would have done without Reba. I swim in the pond all summer long but it was NOT summer anymore.

Last winter, my buddy knocked down a big sumbeast of a goose and it hit the ground and took off running through the field spread. My tiny but mighty Jada got to chase him down. I don't think I've ever seen a happier dog and I know that neither my hunting buddy nor I would have been able to chase that goose down!
