GTA grouse are so elusive
First upland hunt north of the French this year and it was insane. It got to the point where I had the luxury to let some birds walk free. Even saw two birds drumming for the ladies.
Bumped into a moose, coyote, fox, silver fox and a few bear cubs. Not a single deer.

Contrast to upland this morning near GTA. Spooked a deer first thing & paths were empty. I had to get wet in some thick chest height raspberry bush to get a bird to flush and managed a second bump but no way was I getting a good shot until the cover clears up. Wish I had a pointer!

You must be talking about the southern grouse. They should be classified as a new species LOL. When is dinner by the way. Nice birds

Great haul of nice looking birds! I assume the dark ones are spruce grouse?

Thanks & Yes, the spruce were large and well hidden/good chase I had to get at least 1-2. Very beautiful up close.

There are grouse in GTA?

Western and eastern reaches of the GTA have ruffed grouse. I've flushed them in Milton. Not in great numbers but they are there.

Well done, congrats! And what a great picture that is.
Got my first "southern grouse" of the season last weekend on a solo afternoon hunt, I know exactly what you mean.
