    Default Nice little Pond Shoot

Had a nice little pond shoot this morning and very happy with my 9 month old GSP pup.
He made some nice retrieves including a winged wood duck that sailed off in some thick nasty brush.
Should of had a couple more but wasn't paying attention when a few buzzed us. Have a great season everyone.

Nice hunt there. Is that a dove or a woodcock at the end?

FFF, that’s a dove. Should of had a few more of them too, but they are quick.

I have yet to take my GSP out for waterfowl. He is seven years old and still quite "enthusiastic" on upland hunts, meaning he goes way out very quickly and roams all day, leaving me in his dust. Being a great swimmer, I wonder how well he would retrieve downed ducks...? His chest is so huge that no vests I purchase for him fit properly!

Hawkman I do believe that your GSP could retrieve from water and be steady in the blind. Sounds like it just needs some training.
I would recommend getting in contact with your local NAVHDA chapter. They have training day meets that you and your dog could attend. There will be people there with tons of experience training hunting dogs that would help you train your dog and bring out his full potential.
