"Tough love" is my suggestion, admitedly. Pouring hundreds of Billions of dollars into First Nations has only guaranteed a permanent welfare state where there's squalor, hopelessness, substance abuse, high infant mortality, corruption and early death by suicide and miserably poor health. Quite clearly,"doing more" only makes the situation worse. Indian and Northern Affairs Minister (during the reign of Trudeau I) Jean Chretien wrote a brilliant "white paper" which clearly described the issue with several proposals to change. Trudeau I and the Liberal cadre, being afraid of accusations of racism that would feed the opposition, buried it.

If a tree falls on your ex in the woods and nobody hears it,you should probably still get rid of your chainsaw. Just sayin'....

This might take a turn for the worse a number of Police have shown up the other dozen Police Trucks from Quebec and NB as Well and NS about 30 - 40 basically a small army. As well a lot of non Police suspected to be from the Quebec / Ontario border.
Yeah they were approved for extra help from the RCMP [emoji1787].

interestingly enough, a high ranking Liberal MP cabinet minister agreed ...an Indigenous one at that ...now she's now an ex-Liberal..
Jody Wilson-Raybould staunchly stated her opinion of the Indian Act, which is governed by the Indigenous Services ministry.
“For Attawapiskat and for all First Nations, the Indian Act is not a suitable system of government, it is not consistent with the rights enshrined in our Constitution, the principles as set out in (UNDRIP) or calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report. In addition to the need for social and economic support, urgently needed in Attawapiskat and all First Nations, all Indigenous Peoples need to be empowered to take back control of their own lives,” she said in April 2016, according to APTN.
Even before joining the Liberal cabinet, Wilson-Raybould, who herself is Kwakwaka’wakw, authored a massive 800-plus page document outlining how First Nations could veer away from the Indian Act.

Were Mohawks from the Quebec reserve armed with rifles also requested?
These are not all Police. These were Mohawks not with the Police in fact the Police were also watching them.
Interesting the local reserve outside of Yarmouth and his quite quiet which is where my cousin and her Native husband live.

Truth !!! I for one would like to see a party take a stand and come forward with a plan. Give them 20 - 25 years to educate their people, get them into the work force cause all subsidies would be cut off... One law for all, and I mean one law for all...

Not going to happen. Their rights are enshrined in the constitution and held up by the Supreme Court. Basically, they can't be touched, short of a civil war and/or massive civil unrest by their warriors. This country is sooo f***ked!

Wait for it covid will push people to the limit. Already mass protests for being shut down in Toronto . Hundreds blocking the streets . The people will eventually turn on them and it will be an all out war until it's over. .

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ancestors made the agreements with the first Nations a few hundred years ago and those agreements have been honoured by The Supreme Court.Other countries invaded and pillaged by the Crown a few hundred years ago, kicked Her Majesty to the curb and took their countries back over.India being a good example.
The counties she still has a hand in Australia,Canada,New Zealand, the aboriginal peoples have fared pretty badly.
Perhaps Canada should be asking Her Majesty for subsidies,or grants to support us in dealing with the problem she pawned off on us and the rest of the commonwealth.
