Wrong wrong wrong, there has not been peace for 25 years not even 1 year.

They negotiated this with some 35 different aboriginal bands.

They then gave them 10% of the licenses even although they only represent 2 1/2% of the population.

He stated everybody seemed to be happy with the situation ( I am pretty sure if I was a non aboriginal I would not be).In any event they had peace for the past 20 or so years.

This situation TODAY started with ONE BAND going out before SEASON and catching lobsters.

In other words they PURPOSELY, blew the whole agreement apart.

The Supreme Court the Highest Court in the land did not define "a modest living" in my mind totally unacceptable.

I am sure the other 34 aboriginal band's who did not start this affair and not very happy with the one band that did.

In my opinion this ONE BAND should be signaled out and taken to task for fishing out of season.Their license should be revoked.

Then we have the banked licenses problem

I was going to say I thought they have been fighting for he past 20 years . Just just been swept under the rug. Times are changing we all have made changes it is time for them to also make changes.

I also thought the indigenous didn't have a set quota like the commercial fisherman have . ?

I think those involved probably know better then the news. Heck I knew what was going on before it even hit the news.

I was Lobster Fishing out of Pembrook NS just outside of Yarmouth and even back then there were big fights with the Natives and that was in 1987. My captain would warn me about going to certain bars.

This hit very close to home for me. As I said I have some cousins (Dad's sisters kid's and Mom sister's kids) that will be directly involved with this. One cousin in married to a Native in Yarmouth.

At one time in the early 1990's I looked at buying my own license.

The Trudeau government knows squat and considering he did nothing during the train blockades he voice means zero. These Lobster Fishers won't think much of Trudeau.

Remember Trudeau thinks everything is rosy and Unicorns and Leprechauns hide in the forests.

EXACTLY. Fishing/hunting for personal sustenance are one thing - commercialize it and play by the same rules as everyone else

I look at the situation this way if Indians want to keep their traditions buy all means do so. Shoot all the deer, moose and spear all the fish they want but do so traditionally which they claim is there right and which it is. That would mean spearing in the cold spring time water wearing only a loin cloth with either a wood or bone spear by moon light no neoprene chest waders and 1200 lumen spot lights or iron spears and no nylon gill nets as none of the above were around 300 years ago. Deer and moose hunting, no guns no four wheelers no jack lighting no camouflage clothing no trucks.Traditional buck skins and wood bows with sinew strings with stone arrow heads only that's traditional. I would guarantee the numbers would drop drastically of indians out in the bush practicing these so called traditional practices. If they wish to use modern day practices again by all means do so but by a license like the rest of us as modern day practices are not traditional.

Oh my, how many heads are you trying to explode. I'm in favour of that. And why does the gov't buy them equipment to be "keepers of the land(and water)" which results in nothing but problems. Spotlighting at night, spearing spawning fish, leaving nets full of rotting fish. reservations that look like the local dump. No pity for them from my view.

Well another FN has announced they will go ahead on their own terms in NS. Like I said we are very close to a war. This has been brewing for over 30 + years. There is a simple solution to this and that is the FN needs to abide by all regulations and that's it, simple as that. Which they refuse to do. It really isn't complicated. The FN do not want to help manage the stocks and want to take as they see fit. Sorry it does not work that way.
